Day 1 ~ Introductions

Welcome to Canine Angels Team Training and Graduation Blog for the class of 2017!

June marks Canine Angels 10th Team Training and Graduation. Woo Hoo! That's ten years of training and placing amazing, specially trained dogs with equally spectacular kids and young adults with disabilities.

We kicked off this year's team training by getting acquainted. As we went around the table, each person introduced themselves and told us a little bit about their lives. As the week goes on and we get to know everyone a little bit better, I'll write bios on each of our participants so that everyone reading at home gets a chance to know them too.

After introductions and a spot of breakfast the students all had their very first lecture. The lecture primarily covered all the basic commands that they would be putting into practice later in the afternoon. These included things like “sit,” “down,” “shake”, “turn”, and “jump”. This may seem easy as each of these dogs is already trained, but just as with people, each dog is a different. Every dog has different tendencies and needs different things from their handler. Some need a happy and animated voice to get going and others need a nice calm tone so they can slow down and think.

To close today’s blog I would like to invite you all to participate in this year’s Team Training and Graduation Raffle. Each 10 dollar ticket buys you ten chances to win between 100 and 300 dollars. All proceeds go to Canine Angels to help more kids like us be placed with their fur-ever friend and companion.
